This is a fun way to get your kids involved in the kitchen, plus they can basically choose any kind of toppings that they want. I got the original recipe from TidyMom. She has a lot of great ideas on her site, as just last week I made the garlic chicken puffs that are also from TidyMom!
Anyhow, tonight we made home made pizza rolls... or as I like to call them, pizza wheels! It is really, very easy and our 7-year-old had a lot of fun helping me with the first batch. He doesn't like pepperoni or hardly anything on his pizza usually, so I didn't even buy any real toppings. Guess what he chose to put on it? Corn! :) I served the sweet basil sauce from Ragu that TidyMom recommended with this.
For the second can of pizza dough, I did something different. I used some of the leftover meat from philly cheesesteak hoagies last night and made a spicy garlic butter.
For the spicy garlic butter (big hit with hubby!), I simply melted about half a stick of butter in the microwave. Then added a teaspoon or so of garlic and about half a teaspoon of red cayenne pepper seasoning. Just start with a dash or two and add more until it's as spicy as you like. Oh... and I put some dried parsley in there, too. So:
Spicy Garlic Butter
1/2 stick of butter
1 tsp of garlic powder
1/2 tsp of red cayenne pepper seasoning
1/4 tsp of dried parsley
Melt the butter and stir the rest of the ingredients in with a fork.
We used a mix of mozzarella and cheddar cheese (shredded) for the pizza wheels. Check out the original home made pizza rolls at TidyMom here.
